Well known and much loved, The Hide is situated on the South East border of Hwange National Park which is known for abundant and diverse wildlife.

This owner managed lodge was constructed in the early 1990’s by the Preston Family and their attention to detail is much appreciated by guests.

Nestled under a canopy of shady trees, the Hide is situated in it own private concession on the edge of Hwange, and close to an active waterhole – it is the only water source for miles. Ten canvas safari tents under thatch have spacious, deluxe accommodation and various combinations of indoor and outdoor showers and baths. Private verandahs overlook an extensive vlei and a waterhole where zebra, kudu, giraffe and elephant come to drink.

Meals are served in the main dining room, and accompanying wines may be selected from the underground wine cellar. Soak up the glorious sights and sounds of the bush from the large “A-frame” central lodge with its upstairs viewing area and sun lounge. Focused on the wildlife experience, the property boasts an underground hide (reached via a tunnel from the main living areas) as well as an underground blind overlooking the floodlit waterhole. The “Doves Nest’ Tree House can be pre-booked at an extra charge for a romantic sleep out.

The Private Hide – is an Exclusive use camp providing a spectacular space away from it all.  Taking a maximum of 10 guests, using tents 7, 6 and 5 ensuite tents of The Hide Safari Camp, this is the perfect exclusive venue for a small group. This provides private dining and lounging, your own private guide and vehicle and private plunge pool.  Perfect for a family get together with children of all ages welcome.  Stunning location and excellent guiding.

Safari Experience

The Hide prides itself on having knowledgeable enthusiastic guides to explore what Hwange has to offer.  There are up to 4 game activities per day – bush walks with a professional guide, day and night drives and “hide” sits.

An early morning wake up starts the day with a quick, hearty breakfast of porridge/cereal, muffins, fruit, tea or coffee.  Then you head out on your activity with your guide.

Activities offered are game drives and bush walks with a professional guide. Morning activities end around 11am, making way for brunch.

Then it’s relaxation time in camp, making use of the main areas, swimming in the pool or relaxing in your own tent overlooking the productive waterhole.

Tea is served around 3.30pm with an array of savoury and sweet food. The afternoon activities offered are game drives and bush walks with a professional guide, and usually ends with sundowner drinks at a special spot.

Return to camp is about 7.30 – 8.oo pm for dinner. Communal dining gives the opportunity to talk to your guide and other guests. Private dining is also available to anyone.

After dinner enjoy a coffee or liqueur by the fire before bed.

Activity times and meal times are flexible as we work around the guests preferences.

Wildlife & Birdlife

Hwange National Park is a Big 5 area boasting over 100 mammal species, over 400 bird species which include up to 50 raptors.  Large herds of elephant and buffalo are a common sighting.

Lion sightings are frequent, with leopard and cheetah sightings a little less so. Special sightings include the Bat Eared Fox and Painted Hunting Dogs.

Added Extras

A chance for 2 people to sleep out in the Dove’s Nest, which is a tree house sleep out away from camp.

Private dining is available especially for couples/families celebrating a special occasion.

Bush breakfasts, lunches and dinners can be arranged on request or by the management as a surprise.

There are two “underground hides” strategically placed around and very close to the waterhole.

These Hides offer an excellent opportunity to get “up close and personal” with the wildlife and offer amazing photographic opportunities.
