Chinzombo is Zambia’s Premier 5 Star Safari Camp and located in 24 hectares of private Luangwa River frontage with direct access into the National Park.

Nestled within the shade of ancient trees on a wildlife rich ridge, this wildly luxurious camp retains its bush feel with grass and canvas walls and spacious living areas that melt into exquisite, tranquil surroundings. Chinzombo brings levels of comfort, style and elegance previously unseen to the Luangwa Valley.

The six Chinzombo villas (with one designed for a family of five) appear to float over the landscape. The design is ground breaking and original but the simple use of steel, natural materials, locally produced leather, reed work and canvas, lack of concrete or brick and the recycled composite timber floors complement the wilderness perfectly.

Spacious living areas comprise large, cooled bedrooms, massive luxurious bathrooms, WiFi and private plunge pools on shady decks overlooking the Luangwa. This is a super-luxurious, exclusive camp that retains its bush feel. A winding foot path connects the villas and lounge, dining, bar and fire pit area through the shade of the surrounding msikzi trees. Décor is simple and minimal, using raw linen, timber, copper and hand-made crockery that has a respectful nod to Chinzombo’s past history and pioneer of the South Luangwa safari experience, Norman’s, legacy.

Safari Experience

Chinzombo has private, direct boat access into one of the most game-rich areas of the South Luangwa National Park. This, combined with some of the parks legendary guides, makes Chinzombo the perfect place from which to explore the wilds of the Luangwa all year round whether on foot, on the river, or in a vehicle.

Night drives with a spotlight are one of the highlights of the Luangwa Valley giving the chance to see nocturnal animals, particularly leopard, for which the area is so famous.

The Luangwa Valley is regarded as the home of walking safaris and during the dry season, (approx 1 June to 31 October,) those with a sense of adventure can set out on foot with a guide and armed scout for morning walks from Chinzombo.

During the Green Season between November and May, the bush bursts into life as the rivers and lagoons fill. Many species of migratory birds arrive and the clarity of the air and stunning skyscapes make the valley a heaven for photographers. Game is still seen in abundance and it is possible to take boat trips on the Luangwa to explore the nesting colonies and secret tributaries of the  river.

Wildlife & Birdlife

Zambia’s premier wildlife destination, nestling at the southern end of an offshoot of the Great rift valley – the South Luangwa National Park covers an area of 9,050 square kilometres in the east of the country.

The Park, renowned for its unspoiled beauty and varied habitats, supports one of Africa’s richest concentrations of game and birdlife.

Over forty species of large mammal and some four hundred species of bird thrive in this last haven of wild Africa.

The meandering Luangwa River with its many ox-bow lagoons and shady ebony groves forms the eastern boundary of the park, whilst the western horizon is dominated by the spectacular Muchinga escarpment, rising almost a kilometre from the Valley floor.

Endemic species found only in the South Luangwe National Park  include Thornicroft’s giraffe and Cookson’s Wildebeest.
