Tarkuni is the Oppenheimer family’s personal home in Tswalu. 5 luxury suites feature outdoor showers and fuse contemporary decor with traditional African style. Shady salas and a pool provide ideal spaces to relax in the heat of the day. Character fireplaces banish the winter chill, and outdoor showers sluice away the heat of blazing summer mornings.

Tarkuni has a dedicated team of staff ensuring guests have flexibility and independence, with the superb service standards for which Tswalu is known. Game drive, or walk through the Kalahari biosphere, inhabited by the rare desert-adapted black rhino, meerkat colonies, pangolin and brown hyena.

Wildlife & Birdlife

Tswalu uniquely combines the classic rolling Kalahari dunes with the Korannaberg, the southern Kalahari’s only range of mountains. 

Over 80 species of mammals can be found on the reserve, together with approximately 240 species of birds.  The Kalahari biosphere is inhabited by the rare desert-adapted black rhino, meerkat colonies, pangolin and brown hyaena.
