Twelve contemporary rooms are tastefully furnished in an African-chic style and feature private balconies. The lodge’s attractive central areas have double volume thatch ceilings, and the use of wood, stone and glass adds to the natural, traditional ambiance. Resident historian Rob Gerrard (or one of his associates) shares his invaluable knowledge during battlefield tours to Isandlwana, Rorke’s Drift and other Anglo-Zulu/Anglo-Boer sites. Soak in the pool, between fascinating trips into South Africa’s turbulent past or enjoy the activities, game drives and village tours conducted from this base. Leisurely meals can be enjoyed from the dining room as the light fades over plains and distant hills.
