Mumbo Island is an intimate camp situated on a pristine and otherwise deserted island in Lake Malawi near Cape Maclear. The island lies within an exclusive concession area, which is part of the Lake Malawi National Park – the first freshwater marine reserve in the world, often considered to be the best freshwater snorkeling and diving place on the planet.

The tiny camp caters for only fourteen guests. The tents are tastefully furnished with shaded decks, hammocks, hot bucket showers and ‘eco-loos’. A dining area with a bar and lounge is under a baobab tree and a watersport gazebo, beach shower and loos complete the camp infrastructure.

The whole camp is built of timber, thatch and canvas, and is perched on high rocks overlooking the water, blending with the African bush to create a ‘Robinson Crusoe’ atmosphere of rustic charm.

You can swim in the warm, crystal clear waters; snorkel in secluded, fish-filled bays; kayak around the island exploring hidden coves and caves and hike along trails which traverse the island.
