Welcome to Lusaka!
Upon arrival you will connect with your flight to Mfuwe and take a road transfer into the South Luangwa National Park.
The South Luangwa National Park is situated in Zambia’s renowned Luangwa Valley, at the southern end of the Great Rift Valley. It boasts one of Africa’s highest game concentrations, around the river, and was the pioneering locale for walking safaris – still one of the best ways to experience true African wilderness (between June to September). Founded in 1938, South Luangwa was declared a National Park in 1972, and this 9050km² zone is one of the most scenic and spectacular wildlife areas on the continent. The terrain consists of dense woodlands, oxbow pools, floodplains and patches of grassland.
The valley is dependent on the Luangwa River, a major river system which supports the area’s large buffalo and elephant herds, Thornicroft giraffe, plains game and prolific birdlife. Cookson’s Wildebeest and Crawshay’s Zebra are endemic to the area, and the brightly coloured migratory birds, and bird of prey from as far afield as the Russian steppes draw visitors throughout the year. Hippo and crocodiles dominate the waters, and on the steep sandy banks, the fascinating carmine bee-eaters busily dart in and out of their nests. The luxuriant greenery of Zambia’s winters has led to the rainy period being dubbed the “emerald season.” Dry summers provide superb game-viewing, and create a balance to the winters, and a clear distinction between seasons.
3 nights at Tena Tena Camp – Tent
Situated in the exclusive Nsefu Sector, Tena Tena sits nestled under a magnificent and thick grove of mahogany trees. On a double tiered river bank each room enjoys its own private view onto a long stretch of the Luangwa River.
The six tents are very private with plenty of space between them and each with its own window onto a magnificent stretch of the Luangwa River where the hippos wallow and the lions roam. The en-suite bathrooms are spacious and open to the elements, designed to copy nature with curved walls around the trees and simple subtle colours and a view from every facility. Each tent is specifically located to maximize privacy both in the rooms, bathrooms and on the verandahs with comfortable sitting areas and excellent views onto the river.
Activities at Tena Tena include game drives, walking safaris and a visit to Kawaza Village and school can be arranged.
Your stay includes: All meals, local brand drinks, all game viewing activities, return transfers to Mfuwe Airport and laundry.
You will be transferred by road to Mfuwe Airport to take a scheduled flight to the Lower Zambezi National Park.
A relatively undeveloped national park and the youngest in the country, the Lower Zambezi lies across the river from Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools, and together they form a massive wildlife sanctuary. Bigger mammals, predators, elephant herds and plains game are attracted to the valley and game viewing is particularly good during the winter months (June – September). Crocodiles and hippo dominate the waters, and along the Zambezi banks, the canopy of ebony and fig trees are alive with the constant movement and calls of numerous avian species. Summer offers avid birders sightings of the Narina Trogon and an array of brightly coloured birds and the area is known for its superb birding. Although not a big 5 destination (no rhino) the Lower Zambezi National Park offers an exceptional safari experience, with walking safaris, fantastic tiger fishing, game drives and canoeing adding to the allure. Oddly enough giraffe are completely absent from Lower Zambezi with no record of them ever having lived here.
3 nights at Anabezi Luxury Tented Camp
Located in the secluded far eastern end of the Lower Zambezi National Park, Anabezi has an exclusive setting, overlooking floodplains and the Zambezi River. Luxurious and beautifully appointed, the 12 canvas and wood suites are spacious with separate lounges, large bedrooms and in- and outdoor bathrooms. The gauze-fronted suites are light and airy and open out to private decks and plunge pools from which guests may appreciate the stunning riverine setting. Raised wooden walkways link to attractive central spaces and two common areas – with their own pools, viewing decks and dining zones – provide families or groups with the opportunity for exclusivity. Settle on the deck watching for animals from the comfort of an armchair, or simply soaking up the tranquillity of the environs. Spend evenings gathered around a blazing fire, star-gazing and socialising. Game drive through the national park, or enjoy boating safaris and canoeing on the river. Game walks and seasonal catch and release fishing are also available.

The main area is moulded around a large termite mound and mahogany tree, and an old hippo run has been incorporated into our path between the different levels. It is shaded by an enormous tent strung up between leadwood poles. With plenty of different seating areas there is space to relax and unwind whilst reflecting on the days safari.
Dine on the banks of the Luangwa, under the stars enjoying the sounds of the African night.
