On arrival into Lusaka you will receive a Meet & Greet Service and be assisted to connect with your flight to Mfuwe, the gateway to the South Luangwa National Park.
The South Luangwa is famed for being the home of walking safaris and this 7 Night itinerary offers an exceptional experience with fantastic guiding, intimate camps in spectacular spots and outstanding wildlife – there can be few better ways to experience Zambia than walking in the footsteps of Norman Carr, the legendary conservationist.
Staying in a combination of 3 Norman Carr Camps – Luwi, Nsolo and Kakuli – this 7 Night safari includes 2 complimentary nights!
At Mfuwe Airport you will be met by a 4×4 vehicle for the road transfer through local villages and into the South Luangwa to Luwi Camp situated deep in the national park on the ephemeral Luwi River.
Spend 2 nights in a tented suite, fully inclusive of all meals and game viewing activities. Set along the riverbed and overlooking the floodplains below, guests can watch the abundant wildlife from the privacy of their own suite. Feathertop beds, an open air, en-suite bathroom and peaceful seating area create a comfortable guest experience in this seasonal camp.
The Luwi surroundings are famous for lions and wild dogs. The thrill of tracking them on a walking safari with your guide and scout is an experience not to be missed – truly exploring in the footsteps of Norman Carr. Combine walks with day and night game drives and explorations upriver to find the elusive roan antelope, reedbuck, eland and hartebeest. A permanent oxbow lagoon next to camp attracts wildlife from far and wide, especially during the dry winter months. A wildlife hide overlooks the resident hippo pod and offers excellent sightings of the lagoon’s frequent wildlife visitors, ranging from thirsty lions to large herds of elephants.
One of the more historical safari camps in Zambia, Nsolo Camp is the quintessential ‘barefoot luxury’ experience. Nestled along the banks of the seasonal Luwi River, a permanent river lagoon attracts a daily parade of wildlife that guests can watch from their suite’s private deck.
Spend 3 Nights in One Suite on a raised wooden platform, fully inclusive of all meals and safari activities.
There are few African experiences more exciting than heading out on a safari early in the morning to find the fresh tracks of the lions you heard calling all night. As you track them through the bush with hushed voices your mind suggests there is a lion over every rise. This is big game viewing at its best.
Transfer to Kakuli perched high above the Luangwa River, to spend 2 Nights fully inclusive of all meals and safari activities in a suite with a covered open air lounge and indoor and outdoor showers.
Kakuli offers impressive vistas of the river’s many visitors below. The elevated main chitenge and deck overlook the river and a permanent waterhole. Beneath the lounge is a wildlife hide that offers up-close views of the wildlife stopping by for a drink. Don’t be surprised if brunch is interrupted by a giraffe arriving to feed on the nearby trees!
The area is renowned for some of the best game viewing opportunities in Zambia, with abundant leopards, a resident lion pride and a seasonal colony of the immensely beautiful carmine bee-eaters.
Depart Kakuli on a 4×4 game drive and road transfer to Mfuwe Airport to connect with your flight to Lusaka.
Upon arrival into Lusaka connect with your flight to Lufupa airstrip in Kafue where you will be met for your road transfer to Musekese Camp your first of two Jeffrey & McKeith award winning bush camps.
Spend 4 Nights at Musekese Camp sharing one twin bedded Tent, fully inclusive of all meals and safari activities.
Musekese and its sister camp Ntemwa-Busanga camp are located in some of the most remote and wildest reaches of the Kafue National Park.
Founders Phil Jeffrey and Tyrone McKeith grew up in Zambia and, as well as being highly regarded guides, are hugely passionate about the conservation of Kafue’s landscapes and wildlife.
Zambia is often referred to as ‘Real Africa’ The Kafue is her largest and yet least visited national park. Surprising when you consider that the Kafue is home to possibly the greatest diversity of wildlife species of any national park in Africa.
Musekese Camp is situated in a stand of impressive riverine trees overlooking a large oxbow lagoon, which holds water all year and is a magnet for wildlife.
Activities offered include both day and after dark game drives, walking safaris and boat trips on the Kafue River – a stones throw from camp. Your stay is built around you and your choice of how you might want to spend your days with guidance and advice from your guides.
Depart Musekese on a 3 hour drive to Ntemwa-Busanga Camp.
Spend 2 Nights in a walk-in Meru safari tent with a private en-suite.
The standard of accommodation is very high especially considering its remote location. The camp is compared to the early Zambian walking safari camps where the wildlife experience is key, but where meals and simple extra touches ensure a very enjoyable experience.
The main area overlooks the Busanga Plains, where Wildebeest and Zebra can be seen from camp. This area of the Kafue is known as the southern tree line and is comprised of woodland and open plains, which is a good habitat for wildlife sightings of all kinds. Cheetah migrate seasonally on to the plains as the grasses dry out and can be spotted more often when the Wildebeest begin to give birth.
Luwi Bush Camp is one of the South Luangwa’s first remote bush camps and lies deep in the heart of the South Luangwa ...
This rustic camp is nestled in the shade of huge mahogany trees close to a permanent hippo and crocodile filled lagoon, with great views over a floodplain to the Luwi riverbed and beyond. The area is extremely remote with no other camps or people for miles around. One of the finest camps in the South Luangwa and for those travellers who appreciate an authentic safari experience in the wilds!
The five traditional huts made of grass, bamboo and thatch, are built each season, blend into the bush and are simple yet extremely comfortable. The en-suite facilities are open to the sky and very spacious with a flush WC and showers with hot and cold running water.
The twin or double beds are under large mosquito nets, there are reed mats on the floor, rustic furniture and solid earth floors. One of the most traditional of bush camp, at Luwi daytime meals are served in the shade of the mahogany trees, and dinner is taken under the stars accompanied by the many sounds of the Zambian night. There is a small thatch canopy providing shade over the bar and lounging area where guests get to relax and watch the wildlife roam by.
Nsolo Bush Camp is one of the more remote bush camps in South Luangwa National Park located on the Luwi River. Nsolo (named ...
Nsolo (named after the honeyguide bird) is an adventurous walking camp. Sited by Norman Carr, his son Adrian and scout, Rice Time Tembo in 1987. Set on a bend in the Luwi sand river, a dry river bed often used as a thoroughfare for antelope and predators, Nsolo is rustic, open-air and run by an excellent team.
Accommodation in this “bush luxury” walking camp consists of five spacious chalets each on raised wooden decks with grass and reed walls. Set under shady evergreen trees, the chalets are run on solar power, have large, open-air bathroom facilities with a flush WC and hot and cold showers; the private verandas, some of which are wrapped around trees, overlook the surrounding bush and waterholes in the Luwi River.
A camp with plenty of charm, the shady chitenje lounge with a bush bar and dining area are open-sided and offer a peaceful refuge on the banks of the river, where guests can study the camps collection of books or watch a variety of game visiting the permanent pools of water. The communal dining table is often set out in the sandy river bed, surrounded by flickering lanterns.
Kakuli is a classic tented bush camp located on one of the very original camp sites in the central region of the South Luangwa ...
Enjoying an elevated position, well above the flood lines on the banks of the Luangwa River, Kakuli has spectacular views and is one of the few bush camps open for Zambia’s green safari season.
Kakuli has four simple and traditional walk-in safari tents each with en-suite facilities constructed of thatch and reed. A two-bedroom family unit is also available. There is a basin, separate flush WC and large shower with hot and cold running water. The front of the tent can be completely opened up offering lovely views of the river from the comfort of your bed or the veranda. Sandy walkways link the tents to the central camp area, also constructed of reed and thatch and set on a raised deck. Consisting of a bar and dining/lounge area this is the perfect spot to relax overlooking the grazing lagoon as wildlife meanders past.
It is an exciting base for walking and game drives in the dry season, and is Norman Carr’s only camp open in the heart of the Park between 20 Jan – 5 April, for boating and walking.
Musekese Camp is one of the last remaining owner–run and operated safari companies in Zambia. It is located in Kafue ...
The camp is situated in a vast and unexplored corner of western Zambia offering guests exclusive access to remote and secluded wildlife areas in the company of professional and experienced guides.
Musekese Camp has only five chalets taking a maximum of ten people. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with all the necessities, including flushing loos and warm bucket showers under a mix of canvas and thatch. All our power requirements are drawn from a well configured solar set up, and whilst there are no charging facilities in the rooms, the main area has plenty of surplus power 24/7 to keep all your devices fully charged and drinks ice cold.
Ntemwa-Busanga Camp is a rustic bush camp on the southernmost reaches of Busanga Plains and is a sister camp to Musekese Camp. ...
Both are operated by Jeffery & McKeith one of the last remaining owner–run and operated safaris in Zambia.
Located just a few hours north of Musekese Camp, remotely located Ntemwa-Busanga has just 4 simple tents accompanied by open-air en-suite bathrooms at the rear, with flushing loos and warm bucket showers; the main area supplies a modest amount of power for charging cameras and other devices.
