Built in 1904, the historic Victoria Falls Hotel is an icon, its gracious colonial architecture leading out to expansive terraces and lawns overlooking the Victoria Falls Bridge. Décor includes the memorabilia and old-world charm of a bygone era, a nod to the pioneers and explorers whose fame lives on, immortalised in the hotel’s elegant style. Using the mist from the Falls as a beacon, stroll through attractively landscaped gardens along a private pathway, to the scenic Victoria Falls rainforests. High Tea is served on the terrace, a delightful tradition which fits so well with the atmosphere and ethos of this luxurious hotel.
22 June – Two Hour Sunset Cruise on Ra Ikane including Snacks, High Tea and Drinks.
Fashioned after David Livingstone’s exploration boat, the Ma-Robert, the Ra-Ikane boats are named after the instrumental guide who accompanied and assisted Livingstone in his monumental discovery of the majestic Victoria Falls. The design of the Ra-Ikane boats enables them to position passengers closer to the water, further up the Zambezi River, and closer to the banks in the shallow water; all these features provide for unrivalled views of African wildlife, which is rich and plentiful in the areas where the cruises are conducted.
After a delightful breakfast at the colonial Victoria Falls Hotel, you will be collected for your private road transfer to Victoria Falls Airport to meet with your light aircraft flight into Hwange National Park.
You will land at Linkwasha Airstrip and be met by your guide/ranger who will drive you into camp in a 4×4 open vehicle.
Spend 3 nights at Linkwasha Camp, Fully inclusive
Royal hunting grounds in the 19th century and declared a national park in 1929, today, Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve. Vast stretches of wilderness, extend from horizon to horizon and form part of the ancient migration route towards Northern Botswana’s Chobe and the Linyanti.
This diverse landscape of mopane and teak forests, semi-desert scrubland and granite hills is inhabited by a wide variety of mammals and birds. Although a year round destination, Hwange is particularly appealing during the winter months (April to October) when large concentrations of animals flock to artificially pumped waterholes as the seasonal pans dry out. Massive herds of elephant make their presence felt during the dry period. Buffalo, zebra, sable and roan antelope, as well as lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog may be seen.
Linkwasha Camp is situated on an exclusive private concession in Hwange, Zimbabwe’s largest reserve. The camp overlooks a flat plain and waterhole, the open landscape ideal for watching the animals drawn to the waters, especially during the dry season. Contemporary elegance and safari style are skilfully blended in the décor and structure of this appealing property. Luxurious and spacious, 8 canvas tents, and 1 family tent, are constructed on wooden platforms, and feature glass sliding doors opening out to private decks and bush vistas. Units are climate-controlled, ensuring comfortable temperatures. Fresh and attractive central areas include multi-level decks, a pool and winter lounge; the natural environment and unspoilt wilderness may be appreciated from all areas of Linkwasha Camp.
Search for the reserve’s inhabitants on exciting, open vehicle game drives and guided walks. Savour al fresco meals under starry skies, surrounded by the sounds of the wild.
Depart Linkwasha Camp by light aircraft via Kariba for Ruckomechi Airstrip in Mana Pools National Park.
Spend 3 nights at Ruckomechi Camp in a Luxury Tent, Fully Inclusive
Wild, untouched and beautiful, Mana Pools National Park, is a World Heritage Site, located on the floodplains of the Great Rift Valley. Ranging from Kariba Dam to Mozambique, this is one of Africa’s most remote reserves, a lack of borders providing freedom of space for the inhabitants. Prime Zambezi river frontage and lush vegetation sustain a wide variety of game species including large herds of elephant and buffalo. Lion, leopard and wild dog may be sighted as kudu, impala, zebra and waterbuck graze invitingly on open plains. Dominating the scenery are the four large, permanent pools – “mana” translates as four – as well as seasonal smaller pools. Remnant ox-bow lakes, the pools were created by ancient changes in the river’s meanderings and are fringed by foliage and forests of mahogany, wild fig, ebony and baobab. The islands, sandbanks and waters are ideal for substantial hippo pods and crocodiles – these “generalist” hunters, having earned their sinister reputation by being one of the few species that actually view mankind as legitimate prey.
Situated in a private concession on the western boundary of the Mana Pools National Park, is Ruckomechi Camp. This exclusive tented camp overlooks the Zambezi River, and is shaded by a large grove of acacia and mahogany trees. 10 luxury tents have classic interiors decorated using natural materials, and small verandahs from which to appreciate the panoramas. Aimed to be as environmentally friendly as possible, Ruckomechi’s hot water and lighting is provided by solar power. Central areas are reached via a low-level walkway and include dining and lounge spaces as well as a star-gazing deck. Unwind beside the pool in hammocks, making the most of the exclusive setting. A privately located bush bath is set on the river banks, for that truly wild and romantic evening under the stars.
Activities include boating, canoeing, game dives and walks as well as catch and release fishing.
Depart Ruckomechi by light aircraft to Harare to meet with your flight to Johannesburg – South African Airways flight SA023 departing at 1300 hrs and arriving at 1440hrs.
Depart Johannesburg O R Tambo International Airport at 1920 hrs on BA056 in World Traveller Plus Class and arriving into London Heathrow at 0530 hrs on Saturday 30 June 2018
