Welcome to Livingstone!
In his search for ‘’the Smoke that Thunders” David Livingstone discovered one of the most majestic sights in the world and to this day, the spectacular Victoria Falls has the power to leave man speechless with its beauty. It is beside this World Heritage Site that the quaintly colonial, Livingstone Town was born. As a popular entry point into Zambia it offers the intrepid traveller an adventure destination and ideal jumping off point to some of the most untouched game parks available.
Livingstone provides the same escapades which make Victoria Falls so appealing: heart-stopping white water rafting and bungee jumping, elephant back safaris and walks with lions, and glorious aircraft flips over the falls. The sprawling town of Livingstone is home to vibrant markets and museums dedicated to the local culture, history and rich railway heritage.
Upon arrival at Livingstone Airport you will be met and take a short road transfer to Avani Victoria Falls Resort where you will spend 3 nights on a b&b basis.
Surrounded by the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Wildlife Park and a short walk from the spectacular Victoria Falls, the Avani Victoria Falls Resort is a conveniently located Adobe styled lodge, with an African twist; its focus the central pool. 212 comfortably appointed rooms ensure guests have a place to lay their weary heads after a busy day exploring all the wonders of Victoria Falls, and taking part in the unique and heart-stopping activities available. Meals are served in a number of settings, from the casual poolside grill to the more formal restaurants. A highlight is the free access to the Falls and the scenic nature walks through the rainforests: guests can stroll through lush grounds admiring the majestic views, bathed in the spray. The activity centre offers numerous optional excursions.
Depart Livingstone by road transfer to the Botswana border where you will clear immigration before taking a bush plane to the Linyanti region of Northern Botswana.
You will spend 3 nights at Kwando Lagoon Camp on a fully inclusive basis.
Kwando River winds its way through the northern reaches of Botswana, forming a natural boundary to the Kwando Concession. One of the larger concessions in the country, consisting of 232,000 hectares, Kwando is both remote and wild, its fly-in accessibility and minimal camps ensuring exclusivity and seclusion. As the river cuts through the land it creates an attractive wilderness of riverine forests, open floodplains and palm islands. Further afield vast stretches of grasslands are grazed by plains animals: zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and tsessebe, as well as waterbuck, lechwe and sitatunga. The massive buffalo and elephant herds pulse with energy, their constant movement kicking up dust, while the more retiring animals dot the landscape, quietly watching the world around them. As always, where there are antelope, predators follow, adding the exciting potential for the interaction of major species. Lion, cheetah and leopard patrol the open plains, or skulk camouflaged in riverine forests. Kwando boasts excellent wild dog sightings, the large tracks of land offering the necessary space for these arresting animals to run free.
As the African sun takes its toll on the land, drying up the water sources, the riverfront becomes a thrilling hub of activity, the Kwando River drawing the inhabitants with its promise of sustenance. During the cooler months (May to October) the elephant herds are more noticeable in the drier terrain. In summer the scenery comes alive with birdlife, the bright colours and myriad calls providing enthusiastic birders with plenty to keep them occupied.
Kwando Lagoon is perched on the banks of the Kwando River, overlooking the Mudumu National Park in the Namibian Caprivi strip. Raised on wooden platforms the 8 canvas and thatch tents are spacious and traditional, with Persian carpets and baths with views. Scenic lagoon vistas may be appreciated from private decks, or from the comfort of the open-plan main camp. Surrounded by natural beauty, attractive guest spaces include a lounge, dining area and bar, and a deck extends outwards to a pool. Up to 4 activities may be enjoyed during the day: day and night game drives in open vehicles, walks (dry season), fishing (except Jan and Feb) and evening boat cruises. Hippos and elephants are regularly seen from camp and the region offers good wild dog sightings and great birdlife.
Depart Lagoon Camp by light aircraft on the next part of your safari. You will fly into the Okavango Delta to spend 3 nights in a Luxury Safari Tent, fully inclusive at &Beyond Nxabega Tented Camp.
Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp lies in the heart of the Delta, in an 8,000 hectare private concession, south-east of Moremi. Nestled under a canopy of ebony trees, the property overlooks the scenic lagoons, channels and floodplains of this lovely part of Botswana. 9 safari tents are built on raised wooden platforms, and extend out to private decks. The muted hue of the interiors and stylish furnishings blend seamlessly with the pristine landscape beyond. Spacious central areas include comfortable indoor and outdoor living spaces and link to the tents by a system of walkways which skirt the lagoon. Between exciting morning and afternoon game drives, walks, power boating and mokoro activities, perhaps cool off in the pool, or browse through the safari shop. At night, the camp comes into its own: dozens of twinkling candles cast a soft glow over the dining area. Meals may be enjoyed beside the pool – a magical setting.
