With its distinctive white walls and red roof it provides a perfect balance of modern comfort combined with Edwardian elegance and old world charm. Echoing its glorious past the long carpeted corridors of the main building are lined with drawings of maps and photographs of pioneers and famous explorers. Here one finds 119 front facing deluxe rooms, suites and standard rooms which have courtyard or garden view. Little Makalolo sits in a private concession allowing for exciting game drives and walking safaris without the crowds. It offers privacy for guests who enjoy small camps and a sense of remoteness. The camp’s six traditional-style tents – including a family unit – are spacious and en-suite, with indoor and outdoor showers. Solar power is used for tent lights and to heat water, ensuring a lighter environmental footprint.
Linking the tents to the main area are teak walkways. The secluded Changa Safari Camp is a homely getaway in an exquisite untouched setting. Extensive vistas over the lake and on to the distant Matusadona Mountains are filtered through changing light – vibrant in the midday sun or softened by day’s end and lanterns.
Six double and two family tents provide comfortable accommodation with private decks. All are ensuite consisting of flush toilet, two wash basins, bath tub and indoor and outdoor showers. Created using natural materials, open-sided guest spaces include a wooden deck, thatched lounge and dining area which reaches out to the shoreline.
