Pom Pom Camp is a vintage camp and one for the safari traditionalist with an emphasis on the nature experience.

It is situated in a private concession in the heart of the Okavango Delta on the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve. Surrounded by stunning Okavango scenery made up of crystal clear channels and waterways, Pom Pom lies on a permanent lagoon laden with reeds, water-lilies, birdlife and hippos.

Built in traditional safari style all nine tents, including a family (children 8 years +) and honeymoon tent, are spread out under shady trees and overlook the tranquil and scenic lagoon. The tents are set on raised wooden decks with a large shaded verandah at the front. Bathrooms are en-suite and consist of a wash basin, flush loo and shower with a plentiful supply of piping hot water.

One of the jewels of the Okavango Delta Pom Pom Camp is known as much for its “soul” as for the delta swamps it is named after. Decorated in warm earthy tones the attractive open sided main lodge is constructed out of thatch and canvas and comprises a stylish lounge, dining and bar area and small curio shop. To the side of the bar is a plunge pool with loungers making it the perfect place to relax between meals and activities. A boma, sandy terrace with open fire pit, hammocks and easy chairs completes the picture.

Safari Experience

Pom Pom has the advantage of being able to conduct year round land and water based activities. These include morning and afternoon/night game drives with a guide and tracker, nature walks (guide availability dependent), mokoro and boat excursions, bird watching and fishing (not permitted January and February).

The permanent lagoon in front of the camp is a home to “happy” hippos which with their constant “laughing” and grunting create an unforgettable ambience of the camp.

Elephants sometimes leisurely stroll between the tents at night when everything goes quiet.

Wildlife & Birdlife

There is the possibility of seeing numerous different species of game, however Pom Pom is also about the nature experience as much as anything else.

In addition to big game, Pom Pom is a bird-watcher’s paradise and within a maze of water passages you will find the busy Pied Kingfisher and countless other birds that flourish in the water ways.

One such bird is the African Jacana, or commonly known as the “Lily Trotter” which, with its long stick like legs, runs along the top of lily pads without causing so much as a ripple!

Giant Eagle Owls are resident in the camp and a rare and elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl is regularly sighted.

For your comfort, game drives are offered in new, luxury open-viewing land cruisers, with a tracker and a driver/guide.
