Mapula Lodge lies on the northern fringes of the Okavango Delta in a private 12 000 hectare concession. The lodge is located on a large tree island surrounded by seasonal floodplains.

This laid back camp overlooks a reed-fringed lagoon, home to a resident pod of hippos set within an iconic Delta landscape, and a magical environment in which to enjoy the abundance of wildlife.

Built on stilts and crafted from canvas and wood, 9 chalets (including 1 family unit) enjoy private decks and glorious views over the lagoon. Comfortably appointed and with a natural ethnic flavour each has an indoor and outdoor shower. Mapula is a relaxed, unpretentious lodge which blends seamlessly into the surrounds. The open-sided lounge, dining area and deck ensures guests have a true communion with nature, complete with the sounds and scents of the Delta.

In 2018 this is one to watch as it was brought under the management of Uncharted Africa who are well known for their standards and style.

Safari Experience

4×4 game drives, view the wildlife at eye level on a boat or traditional mokoro safari through the lily-filled channels, tick off some of the Okavango specials from your bird-list, plus options for helicopter transfers and hot air ballooning (at additional cost).

The guides at Mapula are some of the best in the business; trained by safari legend Ralph Bousfield, each one has an intricate knowledge of the area that’s hard to beat.

Wildlife & Birdlife

A variety of diurnal and nocturnal animal species may be seen on the day and night game drives – wild dog, leopard and lion are some of the highlights.
