Moremi is in the north east corner of the Okavango Delta and was the first wildlife sanctuary to be created by an African tribe and is named after Chief Moremi. The area includes Chief’s Island, a huge expanse of grassland and forest bordered on each side by two rivers. Perfect for game en masse.
It’s a year round destination with rewarding sightings of elephant, buffalo, plentiful plains game including red lechwe and so the predators are present in force: lion and leopard, cheetah, wild dog and smaller nocturnal species such as serval, caracal and the African wild cat. Last and not least, both black and white rhino have been re-introduced, making the Moremi a Big5 destination!
Moremi is incomparable for a mobile safari too – contact us to arrange this.
Getting out on the water is a key activity in the Moremi. By July and August the floods have reached the delta and make this the best time to explore the Okavango by boat or by mokoro – the traditional Delta dugout canoe.
