Tau Pan is located in the heart of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, a pristine wilderness area. Set on the ridge of an ancient sand dune overlooking Tau Pan, the camp is surrounded by stark beauty and remoteness and is famous for breathtaking night skies, amazing scenery and cloud formations.

With nine environmentally adapted, specially designed thatched rooms on raised decks, Tau Pan accommodates just 18 guests and includes a family unit. The units feature en-suite facilities that include twin vanity units and an outdoor shower.

There is a small deck with sun loungers to soak up the magical views. The rooms stretch out on either side of the crescent shaped open-sided main area which boasts magnificent, expansive views as you step through the entrance. On one end is the dining area, a bar occupies the other end with a small lounge area between. The enormous viewing deck holds a firepit and overlooks a permanent waterhole; there is a plunge pool with sun loungers at the end. Tau Pan is 100% solar operated.

Wildlife & Birdlife

After the summer rains begin, the reserve is completely transformed as the blue sky fills with huge clouds and the plains and pans burst with sweet grasses.  This is one of the best game viewing areas at this time of year, and not many people seem to be aware of this so there are no crowds.

The reserve is home to springbok, gemsbok, wildebeest, as well as the famous Kalahari black-maned lion, cheetah, leopard and jackals.

Several species of antelope make the trip to the sweet grasses which include eland, steenbok, gemsbok, kudu and duiker.

Honey badgers are commonly seen, as well as ground squirrels and bat-eared foxes.

The largest flying bird, the Kori bustard is also found here.
