Category: Zambia

If you want top wildlife safari adventures, then look no further than Zambia. Vast stretches of pristine game rich wilderness await with superb camps, varied activities and some of the best guiding in Africa!

1.  Explore the Bush on Foot

Walking is the perfect way to search for the smaller creatures, learn about the trees, the plants and examine the different tracks and signs.  Walking was pioneered in Zambia and remains one of the few areas where this can be truly enjoyed. Not only do you see the smaller things on foot, it is also not uncommon to encounter lion on bush walks.  Speak to us about walking between small bush camps in the South Luangwa – really exciting!

2.  Sleep-Out Under the Stars

This is an adventurous addition to any safari.  Spend one night like the early explorers, just you, your guide, a mosquito net and millions of twinkling stars.  Your guide will even reveal the constellations of the Southern night sky.  By the way, you will also have a bedroll, bush loo and culinary team with you!

3.  Scenic Boat Cruises

Scenic boat cruises are a very relaxing way to view the game that comes down to the river to drink and bathe, whilst also taking in the unique water wildlife. Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park excels at this during the dry season.  Upclose encounters with elephants crossing the Zambezi from Zimbabwe to Zambia and experiencing the most amazing sunsets in Africa, floating sundowners and gin and tonics are de rigueur!  One of our favourite camps for this activity is Sausage Tree Camp

4.  Canoeing the Zambezi River

The Lower Zambezi is renowned for its spectacular canoeing. Led by a highly qualified canoe guides, explore the banks of the river, where game can be seen from a totally different perspective – looking UP rather than down! No experience required – this is an effortless drift with time to listen to the sounds of the huge variety of birdlife and admire their sheer beauty.
Try the full day canoe trip, stopping for a picnic lunch en-route is an unbeatable safari experience.

5.  Photographic Hides

We know camps in both the South Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi National Park where hides are regularly used by National Geographic, BBC and Discovery Channel for numerous photographic shoots and the making of wildlife documentaries.  Specialist hides allow our guests to get close in complete safety and capture those perfect safari action images.

6.  4X4 Game Drives

Day & Night Game Drives in open topped vehicles allowing you 360 degree vision. A larger area can be covered in a shorter time frame, increasing the chance to find good game. The vehicles also allow those ‘up close and personal’ experiences in the hands of expert rangers.  Night drives are the perfect way to experience the nocturnal animals, such as the genet, civet, porcupine and giant eagle owl and the big cats are actively hunting.

7.  Amazing Birding

Crowned Crane

Whether you enjoy waking up to the booming call of the impressive Ground Hornbill or watching the flittering of tiny Red billed Firefinches, Zambia is a terrific birding location for the novice and experienced bird watcher alike.

8.  Exploring The Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls Sunset

Called “Mosi-oa-Tunya”, (the smoke that thunders) in the local language the Victoria Falls are one of the seven wonders of the world and when you first come to Zambia, Livingstone is a must visit destination. Take a guided tour of the Victoria Falls and then pop into the excellent Livingstone Museum filled with Dr Livingstone memorabilia.

9.  White Water Rafting

White Water Rafting on the Zambezi

The Zambezi River below the Victoria Falls is widely considered to be the very best White Water Rafting river in the world. A deep channeled, high volume river, the Zambezi has class 3 – 5 rapids interspersed with tranquil pools.

10.  Hot Air Ballooning

Stay at one of the best camps in Kafue NP and from August-October go up in a hot air balloon to fly eye-to- eye with an eagle and watch hippo playing far below while taking in the incredible remoteness of the plains below.
